Chic Style ICON: Chinwe

Hey Chic-istas and Welcome to Style ICON!! I hope you are ready for some major style inspiration!! Check out Chinwe; her beautiful and effortlessly style captured my attention and I know it will capture your attention as well. Keep reading to learn about Chinwe and her amazing fashion sense...

NCJ: How would you describe your style? Does it fall under a particular category?

Chinwe Orabuchi: I describe my style as a little bit tomboy-ish to Afrocentric. I say tomboy-ish because I love to be comfortable! Loose shirts, boyfriend jeans, slacks and an oversized blazer are the greatest! The only exception to the tomboy-ish look is I will throw it with a pair of heals, a face of makeup and cute accessories. Every now and then I try new looks but my staple is tomboy with a girly twist...it describes my personality!
NCJ: Do you have one fashion item, you can’t live without? Is there a piece that will always be included in your wardrobe?

Chinwe: My fashion item I tend to always have are plain loose fitting v-necks! Throw them with a pair of pants, your best pumps, a cute hairdo and you're ready to go! A piece always included in my wardrobe is a little bit of arm candy, most likely a watch or some bracelets. I don't like to over accessorize; the best accessory is a simple smile.

NCJ: What is your secret to putting together such amazing and fashionable outfits?

Chinwe: COMFORT! If I'm constantly holding and tucking in then it's not something I will wear. If I have to think twice about if I should wear it then I won't wear it.

NCJ: Where are your favorite places to shop? What catches your eye when you shop?

Chinwe: I am not a picky shopper at all! I want the most for my money so I'm always looking for sales...I get simple v-necks and jackets from Forever 21, jeans from American Eagle, H&M, local clothing stores and the best place of them all are local thrift stores!!! I have a field day whenever I enter one! The key isn't to buy the most expensive thing or exactly what you see on the mannequin but focus on what isn't on display. You shouldn't have to go broke trying to look nice either.

NCJ: Do you have a celebrity style icon? A person you draw inspiration from...

Chinwe: Actually no I do not! I have always felt how you dress is a reflection of your OWN personality so if you are imitating someone else you are not showing who you are. There are too many celebrity imitators and not enough originals! One of my favorite quotes is "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken!" And that is the truth hunny!!

NCJ: What is one fashion tip, you would like to leave my readers with?

Chinwe: My favorite fashion tip is you can be sexy without showing too much skin! Confidence is sexy and will get you more respect! The extra tight, extra revealing clothes do nothing but depreciate the value of a woman, so know your worth!
