Show Off September: Tiffany and her Terrific Curls!

Hello Chic-istas! I am excited to introduce you all to another natural beauty for Show Off September. Meet Tiffany! This gorgeous naturalista is one of my curlfriends on Instagram, and I just love her post. Whether her pics are funny, encouraging, or a snap shot of her beautiful daughters or her gorgeous hair, I just love it all. I can't wait to show off her beautiful smile and terrific curls! So, here is the fabulous, funny, and beautiful, Tiffany!

Nappturally Chic Jere: Hello Tiffany and thank you so much for sharing your story with us. Can you tell my readers a little about yourself.

Tiffany: My name is Tiffany and I'm from Chicago,Illinois. I'm a proud Ohio State alumnus and natural hair's #1 fan!!

NCJ: Please tell me about your hair before going natural? Were you ever frustrated with your relaxer?

Tiffany: To start, I received my first relaxer at the tender age of 5. My hair was very thick and at that time, I believe it was too much to handle. For over 25 years, my relaxer was my life! If I went more than 6 weeks without one I went into relaxer withdrawal lol! And I was very happy with my hair with a relaxer. I always wore a wrap so when Aaliyah came out, I knew I was Ms. Thing lol!

NCJ: Told you guys she was funny, lol!! So, Ms. Thing :) why did you decide to go natural?

Tiffany:  I got my last relaxer July 7, 2010. I had decided to color my hair so it started breaking and shedding and had thinned out so much that I made the choice to stop relaxing my hair completely. I only transitioned for 7 months.

NCJ: After transitioning for seven months, did you decide to do a Big Chop? If so, how did that feel?

Tiffany:  After the strong convincing of my niece and sister, I decided to BC in February 2011. The actual BC was a cool experience because I had my whole family around me. It was such a shock to everyone that I was cutting all my hair off because I'd been wearing long hair all my life-it was sort of my trademark! The time after my BC was not so pleasant. I'd never had super short hair before so I felt very attractive and helpless in my new look.

NCJ: Awww, I can completely relate to that feeling... What were your biggest fears about being fully natural. How did you overcome your fears.

Tiffany: Honestly, my biggest fear had come true. I would get weird looks and people would even offer their own negative opinions about my choice to cut my hair. I felt very isolated and despised my hair for the first year. Once I started looking at vids on YouTube and started trying different styles, I began to love my hair. Even more when it started growing out. Now, 2 1/2 years post BC, I'm lovin' it! I'm never going back to the creamy crack lol.

NCJ: Very nice!! I'm glad you love your hair because It is so beautiful!!!! What are your favorite hairstyles and your favorite hair products?

Tiffany:  My favorite style is the frohawk. I wear it most often. I also love braidouts, twistouts, and flattwist outs. I recently saw a technique and have been wearing it the last 5 days and I it is quickly becoming a contender as my favorite. It's a twistout with a hanging Bantu knot. It gives you more of a curly fro look which I absolutely love!! I adore big hair- the bigger the better! My favorite products are my only products. Long gone are the 'product junkie' days! I use TRESemmè Naturals Nourishing Moisture conditioner and  to cowash. It gently cleanses my scalp without giving my hair the stripped feeling. I use Aubrey Organics Island Naturals Replenishing Conditioner to deep condition. My fav moisturizer is Elasta QP Mango Butter and Olive Oil moisturizer and fav leave in is kinky curly knot today.

NCJ: I love Elasta QP Mango Butter and Olive Oil moisturizer, it is one of my favs!! So, do you have any advice for those thinking about becoming natural or those new to being natural?

Tiffany:  The best two pieces of advice I can give are: make sure you are ready and don't get caught up in hair comparisons. Being a natural girl with a tighter curl pattern can be a lot of work and you can get plenty discouraged if you are easily overwhelmed. Be prepared to moisturize constantly!

NCJ: Great advice!! What was the biggest lesson you learned about your hair and yourself from your natural hair journey?

Tiffany: I've learned that I'm more confident in my appearance as a natural girl more than I ever was when I was relaxed. My hair is a true extension of me and isn't manufactured. I'm not in any way trying to condemn women who chose to relax their hair, I just feel that I'm at point in my life where I'm tapping in to my 'big girl' and 'big girl' ain't got time fah that lol!

NCJ: Too funny!! Where can my readers fins you to keep up with your fabulous-ness?

Tiffany:  The only social network I'm plugged into right now is Instagram. My username is naturallyme_11. I used to upload vids to YouTube, but my computer wasn't programmed with very good editing software and it was quite a task to edit my vids. As soon as I get proper editing software, I'll post notice on my IG page!

NCJ: Thanks so much Curlfriend!! Stay beautiful and please don't ever loose that beautiful smile or amazing sense of humor! Thanks again for sharing!!!

Hugs and Love,
