Golden Globe Fashions

If you are anything like me, you love when it's award show season! I don't really watch the actual ceremony, but I'm glued to the television for the red carpet!!! I love the glitz, the glamour, the style, and I love making my fashion predictions and seeing if they line up with the "experts." I saw a lot of great looks and I saw some looks we can learn from. Let's take a look at the fashions from the Golden Globes 2013...

Best Looks

Kerry Washington ( Designer- Miu Miu)
When I first saw this dress I was unsure how I felt about it. It is one of those fashion choices that can go so wrong or turn out so right. It definitely wasn't a safe choice. I was ready to grudgingly (I love her so much) say I dislike it until Kerry Washington hit the pose on the right. Then I saw it!!! The 1920's inspired flapper look, the gorgeous working and embellishment, the subtle sexiness of the sheer deep V on the top. This dress is Hollywood Glamour! I love how she kept the look clean with sleek and simple hair. I also love how her pointed Prada pumps and slight metallic clutch kept the look demure and sexy. Looovvvveeee this look.
Jennifer Lopez (Designer- Zuhair Murad)
Jenifer Lopez looked amazing in this champagne and white lace gown with the sheer illusion. Nudes and lace were huge on this year's red carpet and Jennifer shined among them. Everything from her hair, her sultry smokey eye and the way this dress fit her amazing curves makes this one of my top picks!! This look exudes glamour and I especially love how J Lo develops her sex appeal with her age and her lifestyle. As a mom and a woman of a particular age, she found a way to bring the sex appeal without resorting to her infamous Versace dress days. Love this look!!
Helen Mirren (Designer- Badgley Mischka)
Helen Mirren looks Ahhhh-mazing in this black, sleek, gold embellished gown. Even though I am in my twenties, I love to see woman of a particular age keep their confidence, sexiness, and charm and do it in a way that is appropriate yet makes the younger ones stand up and take notice. This dress works perfect for her and the strategic placement of the gold embellishment around the shoulder and the waist gives a perfect shape and draws attention to her beautiful waist and stature. Did I mention that she is 67!! Love her and Loooovvvveee this entire look.
Julianne Hough (Designer- Monique Lhuillier)
I Love this dress! I'm sure the "experts" would disagree because of her interesting jewelry choices (earrings shaped like a beetle) and her Mohawk inspired up-do but I love this look. This gown makes me want to walk down the aisle every Saturday just so I can wear it again and again. I love the tulle detailing at the bottom of the dress, I love gradient style of the gold embellishment as it is heavily placed at the top of the dress and lightly placed towards the bodice and bottom of the gown. This dress takes everything I loved about wanting to be a princess as a little girl and added some grown-up edge with the detailing of the embellishment. I'm in love and I want to renew my vows in this dress.
Kate Hudson (Designer- Alexander McQueen)
I absolutely love this amazing gown! This dress gives me everything I love about Alexander McQueen's designs. The strong shoulder, the subtle sexiness, the way the dress is so effortlessly amazing by being so simple yet so intricate at the same time. I love the sash detailing at the waist and the way the gold embellishment there ties together with the gold embellished high collared neck. The plunging V cut is amazing on Kate's petite frame and elongates her as well. I'm in love!!!

Looks We Can Learn Lessons From
(This blog is about uplifting each other so I'm not going to belittle the woman but look at what we can learn from their fashion choices)

Halle Berry (Designer- Versace)
This dress shows off the watercolor trend for the spring but, Halle as beautiful as she is and as gorgeous as her body is, teaches us an important fashion lesson. This dress doesn't work for the beautiful Ms. Berry because this choice seems like a regression to fashions from before. Like Jennifer and Helen, we need to find our sexy within the boundaries of our age and lifestyle. This dress would have worked without the unnecessary cut-out and the extreme backless detailing (not pictured) Sometimes less is more. Pick an asset you would like to feature and let the rest of your body be a supporting role. I love you Halle!!
Rosario Dawson
Rosario Dawson (Designer- Antonio Berardi)
The color of this dress is beautiful, her natural makeup and sleek hair is gorgeous, and her smile is amazing! The lesson learned from this fashion choice is the importance of knowing your body type. Like me, Rosario has an ample bust line and lacks ultra define arms. (we can't all have arms like First Lady Michelle Obama) The cap sleeve on this dress cuts off her arms and makes them appear fuller than they are. The fit around the bust line shortens her torso while the peplum adds bulk to her slender frame. If you are self conscious about your arms and bust, strapless necklines can do wonders as they accentuate your best features and draw attention away from the things you like the least.
Alyssa Milano
Lesson Learned-- Nothing can hinder the potential of an amazing look like the wrong fit. The fit of a dress, skirt, pants, top, etc... can elevate or sink your fashion choices. The sizes found on the labels of your favorite fashions are so subjective and just because it zips doesn't mean that it fits. Don't be afraid to find a cost efficient seamstress in your area who can add the tiny touches that take a dress from being just another dress off the racks to a dress that looks and feels like it was especially made for you.

Please leave comments below and tell me if you agree or disagree with my choices, who I left out, and tell me who your favorite look of the night was.

Hugs and Love,
Jere'

    1. Thanks!! I loved her black long sequins strapless gown as well. I just didn't include her because it was a classic choice but not a stand out choice :) She's gorgeous!!
